Q&A: How long does it take to learn German for university studies?

Question by johnnyhayek: How long does it take to learn German for university studies?
I am planning on studying in Germany for its great engineering but ofcourse I have to learn German for that. How long would it take me to learn enough German to pass the "TestDaf"(like TOEFL but for German) and get level 4 in all sections, as that is what most universities their require?
