If I watch a lot of Japanese movies, will it help me learn the language?

Question by kuhtren: If I watch a lot of Japanese movies, will it help me learn the language?
I've heard people say that it is a good idea to watch foregin movies and TV shows, and listen to foreign music if you want to learn that language. Will it actually help me? And do I watch the programs with subtitles or would that interfere with my brain being able to adapt to the language on its own?
